“The cross is not a defeat, but a victory. It is the dramatic reassertion of the fact that God’s love is sovereign, that the rulers of the world do not have the last word…”
Eugene Peterson
Easter morning
“Very early in the morning on the first day of the week, the women went to the tomb, bringing the fragrant spices they had prepared. They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they went in, they didn’t find the body of the Lord Jesus.
‘They didn’t know what to make of this.
“Suddenly, two men were standing beside them in gleaming bright clothing. The women were frightened and bowed their faces toward the ground, but the men said to them, ‘Why do you look for the living among the dead?’” Luke 24: 1-6
The tomb is empty, Jesus is alive, and will be every morning.
Don’t waste your time in archived dreams, searching for signs of life.
Don’t comb through dusty coffins of the way things used to be.
Don’t peer ahead with thoughts of dread of what may never happen.
Look instead, straight ahead, into the face of Jesus. “Behold! I am making ALL THINGS NEW!” Revelation 21:5
Do you believe his promise? If we know he holds our future, we can, like treasure hunters, collect evidence of his goodness.
There is Good
There is good in holding babies. There is good in peaceful signs. There is good in sharing sandwiches, in stepping over lines. There is good in just resisting the demand to hate another. There is good in praying boldly, In sending flowers to your mother. There is good in protest music, in planting seed by seed. There is good in overtipping, to thumb your nose at greed. Some may refuse to see the good, or the point of empathy, because they’ve never given thanks for the privilege to BE.
